Maurice O’Connell Letter February 1854
6th February 1854
Sir
- I have the honor to request you be good enough to lay before His Excellency the Governor General my application to be allowed the services of a clerk in the Government Resident’s Office at Port Curtis.
- I would remark that as my duties both as Resident and Commissioner of Crown Lands, will require me in the first formation of the settlement more especially, to be constantly in the saddle and superintending the out of door operations of labourers and others employed on the Government Works, it will be almost impossible for me to keep up my necessary public correspondence without the assistance I now apply for.
I have the honor to be,
M.C. O’Connell
Government Resident
