About the Project
Picturing the North illustrates some highlights of early art in Queensland, emphasising the themes of exploration, establishment, and edification. This visual journey through Queensland’s history begins with artists who were inspired to create work during successive waves of exploration along the Queensland coast; followed by visual representations of the communities that emerged throughout the early decades of settlement. The presentation concludes with a selection of works of art which evidence individual achievement in the young colony.
