The Royal Historical Society of Queensland is convening a one-day Moreton Bay Settlement Conference at the Commissariat Store on Saturday 17 May 2025 to mark 200 years since the moving of the penal settlement from Redcliffe to Brisbane in May 1825.

Speakers include Dr Ray Kerkhove on relationships and conflicts, Dr Jennifer Harrison on creating Brisbane Town, Dr Thom Blake, Professor John Pearn on Dr Henry Cowper, Jeff Hopkins-Wiese on the 40th Regiment of Foot, Roger Ford on the development of agriculture in Moreton Bay, and Jan Richardson on the first three female convicts and other women present during the settlement’s earliest years.
