Dr Annemarie McLaren has been appointed Visiting Fellow in the HGRC from April 2018 to April 2019 to examine the original documents relating to the Zion Hill Mission in Nundah (1838-1848):
While the Nundah Missionaries are celebrated as the first free settlers of Brisbane, there is far more to their story than their persistence as pioneers. Their activities form a significant chapter for cross-cultural relations in the colony, and from 1838 until 1848, when the mission was disbanded, a wealth of sources were created. By making the key primary material from this period more accessible — by transcribing the main documents and by assembling useful maps and photographs of the mission site and its surrounds — this project aims to facilitate further awareness of and research into this dynamic period.
