Battlefront 2: An account of the violent conflicts for the control of grazing lands and water in the Gulf Country ~ 1860 to 1905
In the hard stony ridges of the remote Selwyn Ranges outside Cloncurry, the lonely grave of a Native Police officer whose contempt for the Mittakoodi of north west Queensland made him lose his focus, and with that, his life in a desolate bush camp during the campaign of 1883.
This book tells of the hard-fought war for grazing country, water and the mineral rewards from the Gilbert to the Roper Rivers and across the Barkly to Cloncurry. It tells of conquest and reprisal in Queensland and the Northern Territory Gulf Districts, from the early days in Burketown to the deadly Federation Drought nearly 50 years later.
Follow the clans throughout the regions as they resist the settlers, the Chinese, the overlanders and the prospectors …all with deadly force.
This is Australian history, researched and referenced.
This is the second in a series of books titled Battlefront that delve into the history of frontier conflict, the often violent fight for control of grazing lands and waterways, and the wars that ensued between Aboriginals and Squatter in Australia.
